Book Expo America and BookCon - Awesome Swag!

Going to BookCon was so much fun. I was lucky enough to score a copy of The Mystery Writer's  American Cookbook, with recipes by some of my favorite mystery writers! And I also got to meet mystery writer Clea Simon and get an autographed copy of her book, Dogs Don't Lie
I have been a fan for years so this was truly a thrill! Can't wait to start reading!

Book Expo America and BookCon 2015

Just returned from a great weekend at BookCon 2015 in NYC where I signed copies of my Middle Grade book Chips a Hometown Hero. Of course, there was amazing swag to be had, and so many fabulous books to see. I can't wait to start reading!!

Black Swans - A Novel Inspiration!

Black Swans at the Steinhardt Estate, Mount Kisco, New York

I was so excited to see not just one but an entire flock of black swans at a recent Garden Conservancy Tour (Judy & Michael Steinhardt Estate in Mount Kisco, New York) They are native to Australia.

A black swan plays a central part in my current YA novel, and, quite honestly, I never expected to see one in the feather, so to speak! They are just as beautiful and graceful as white swans but perhaps a bit more mysterious and exotic. This one swam directly to me and posed. Did I mention that black swans are thought to be psychic?

Santa Kitty Toy Hop

We are late as usual but we decided to gather up our gently used, as well as new toys to donate to one of our favorite rescue organizations: Community Cats in Bedford, New York. Ajax and I hope to load up the sleigh tonight and deliver our treats on Christmas Eve Day.

Ajax really labored over which toys to donate. In the end, he could not part with his favorite chipmunk so we had to buy a new one for the rescue kitties.

HAPPY NATIONAL CAT DAY!

On my recent trip to Italy, I had the opportunity to visit Rome's famous cat sanctuary, Colonia Felina Torre Argentina, located amid ancient ruins in the heart of Rome. Upwards of two hundred and fifty cats, all spayed, neutered, and vaccinated wander among the remains of ancient temples. Several structures date back to 400-300 BC. The cats are catered to by groups of international volunteers. The sanctuary also contains an underground shelter that houses many of the special needs felines. And, yes, many are adoptable! While we celebrate National Cat Day here in the US (and National Feral Cat Day on October 16th), it's heartwarming to know that TNR is being practiced throughout Europe and other spots around the globe.
Visitors are welcome daily from 12 until 6PM
