Hurricane Sandy Helps Homeless Cat Find A Forever Home

The little fur ball shown eating in my previous post was much too friendly to leave out in the cold. Three days after the photo was taken, and a week post Hurricane Sandy, I scooped up "Tigger" and carted him off to the vet where he was neutered, vaccinated, and checked for the usual: ticks, fleas, ear mites, and worms. Having spent close to eight months sleeping under a wood pile, Tigger, renamed Nathaniel, had several large ticks imbedded around his neck, as well as a nasty dose of fleas. We gave Nathaniel two weeks of cage R&R before beginning the search for his new home. This also gave us time to canvas the neighborhood, local veterinary offices, and the Internet to see if a "lost cat" met his description. Sadly, no one was looking for Nathaniel. Nathaniel came home with me for the Thanksgiving holiday. He spent two weeks living in my office and was a purrfect kitty. Then, two days ago, the news we were all waiting for arrived. A man had met Nathaniel at the vet's office while he was visiting with one of his cats. He thought Nathaniel was a special boy, and wanted to adopt him as an early Christmas present for his mother. Nathaniel, renamed Bailey, now has a wonderful new home that even includes a little cat brother! I miss him terribly but I am also thrilled he has found such a special and loving family.

Nathaniel--Now "Bailey"

Nathaniel was my office cat for two wonderful weeks. I miss him terribly!
